Affiliate Marketing for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide

Getting Started from Scratch

Affiliate marketing for beginners step by step is what I’m going to be covering. If you’re someone that’s just getting started to promoting other people’s products online, this is what I wish I would have known about 10 years ago when I first got started.

So sit back, relax, and if you want to take notes, I’m going to dive right into this. Here’s what we’re going to be covering: first off, I’m going to be sharing with you how you can start from scratch – no following, no previous experience, not a lot of tech skills – and you can make your first affiliate commission this week. By the end, you will have enough knowledge to really go out there and make your first commission.

  • The Essential Steps for Affiliate Marketing

Now I’m going to share the steps you must do to this business model. Affiliate marketing is kind of different than a lot of other business models out there, and I’m going to be sharing with you the simple steps that you need to take on a daily basis. Now these aren’t complicated, these aren’t a lot of work, it’s just very basic, but you need to understand this.

  • Removing Confusion and Creating Clarity

And then I’m going to share how to actually remove confusion and know exactly what to do each day. You know this is a big one. When I first got started, I didn’t have a lot of time and I didn’t know sales, I didn’t know marketing, I didn’t know any of this stuff. I would come home at the end of the day utterly confused.

  • Finding Your Focus: Niche Selection for Success

Jumping from thing to thing, I invested my money into many different programs that promised the world and they never actually delivered. So, what I’m going to be doing is removing the confusion.

What is a Niche?

The very first step, diving right in, is niche selection. So, what is a niche? A niche, depending on where you’re located in the world, is basically a specific category of people. Any main interest or hobby is going to be like a niche.

Why Choose a Niche?

The reason you want to choose a niche is so we can start to attract those types of people and we can start to sell products in that category, in that topic. You want to be a specialist, not a generalist. A lot of people are going out there and they’re being very vague, they’re being very general. You don’t want to do this. Even if you think about doctors.

The Benefits of Specialization

Why do we want to be a specialist? It’s way easier to stand out. So if you’re, let’s say you’re in the niche of weight loss and that’s it, you don’t go beyond the topic of weight loss.

How to Choose a Profitable Blog Niche?

Choosing a Specific Niche

If you want to discuss weight loss, that’s great! There’s a huge audience for that topic. But by picking a specific subcategory within weight loss, you’ll stand out from the competition. People feel like you understand them better when you share relatable experiences. This builds a stronger connection with your audience.

The Three Best Evergreen Niches

The best niches to choose are what are called “evergreen niches.” Evergreen niches are consistently popular, as opposed to fads that will quickly fade away. The top three evergreen niches are:

  • Health
  • Wealth
  • Relationships

Choosing a Profitable Niche

In health, we have the keto diet, muscle building, and the carnivore diet. These are just three examples, and you can choose others. But try to be more specific in the niche that you actually choose. For wealth, we have crypto, affiliate marketing, and investing in Forex. In the relationships niche, consider improving marriage, getting back with your ex, or online dating. I recommend you choose one of these main categories.

Why Your Niche Should Be a Passion

I highly recommend you choose the niche you’re passionate about. A lot of people just choose a random niche, and the problem is it’s going to be difficult to stay consistent with promoting and sharing content in that specific niche if you don’t enjoy it. It’s much easier to stay consistent if you actually like the topic you’re focusing on. You can learn while you earn! Let’s say you don’t know much about the keto diet but you’ve always kind of wanted to learn about it – if you choose that niche, you can actually study and learn it while sharing information to attract people to you. Creating content is also easier when you enjoy the topic.

Selecting Your Platform

Now, let’s talk about choosing a platform. By platform, I mean a specific place online to actually promote products and build a following. But you do need to choose a platform. I recommend you pick one platform to promote on to start. A lot of people make the mistake of trying to be present on too many platforms at once.

Social Media Presence: Less is More

Twitter or X as it’s called right now they’re on Facebook they’re on Tik Tok and you think maybe starting off oh I need to model myself after this person I need to be like this person so I need to spread myself out on all these different platforms but this isn’t the case okay this is crucial especially if you’re just starting off and maybe you’re working a job maybe you’re working two jobs maybe you have a family the fact is you don’t have a lot of extra time so for you to spread yourself thin you’re not going to get traction and results on any of the platforms.

Choose Your Main Platform Wisely

What I recommend you do is you pick the platform you’re naturally on the most okay so this could be again…for me to share a quick story with you when I first got started I was always watching… you know I’d watch like podcasts, funny comedy… things like that and so for me it made sense I’m already naturally on… why don’t I just create… right why don’t I just promote on… maybe you’re always on Instagram right maybe you’re always scrolling on Instagram looking at other people’s photos well you can literally start posting your own photos, it could be Tik Tok right whatever you’re on that’s what I recommend you start with and again it could be you know Instagram… any big social media platform.

Building an Audience for Successful Marketing

Create this profile on a platform where we want to build an audience. The key to success is building an audience because if you don’t have someone to market to, you’re not going to be able to sell any products. So, how do we actually do this? We want to build an audience by sharing valuable information in our niche. It doesn’t matter which platform you pick – TikTok, Facebook, or another – focus on consistently posting valuable information.

  • Attract Followers with Valuable Content

A lot of people are chasing potential followers, trying to bother them into engagement. The best way to find success easily and quickly is to post consistent, good information that your target market or niche is actively looking for. If you’re in the keto diet niche, for example, you can share top recipes – that’s the kind of content your audience would be interested in.

  • Find Relevant Information

To find what kind of content to create, you can literally just go to Google and type in “[your niche] tips.” Look at articles and repurpose the information into your own posts. There’s not a lot of completely new information out there, so a lot of successful content creation is about rehashing what’s already available but doing it in your own unique way.

  • Finding Content Ideas for Your Niche

Find ways to express ideas in a way that’s kind of unique to yourself. It does not matter if you’re in keto or the dating niche – you can look up dating tips and then talk about them. For example, I could say “Hey, you know I’m going to share keto diet tips for beginners. Number one, you want to decrease carbs. Number two, decrease stress because XYZ… you know, blah blah blah.” This is how you can easily find tons and tons of ideas – you don’t have to try to be overly creative.

  • Content Varies by Platform

The next thing is to understand that the type of content varies. Whether it’s photos or longer written pieces, the format’s going to change based on your chosen platform. The rules of good content remain the same, though.

  • Research and Model Successful Content

First off, I recommend researching your competition and modeling their top posts, no matter what platform you choose. There are going to be other people in your niche. Look at what posts are working best for them to get inspiration.

  • Finding Content Inspiration

Okay, so if we go ahead and let this load (my computer is running a little bit slow), we want to kind of find, not just somebody that does one piece of content, but a source that’s really all about the keto diet. If we go down here, we look, there’s not a lot of sources that are just around keto. But let’s say we just choose this source here. They’re talking about keto. We would want to open it up and sort posts by most popular.

  • Popularity Matters

For any online platform, whether it’s a social media site or elsewhere, you can filter by what posts have the most comments and the most likes, because those are the most popular, and then you can recreate those. I’m going to open this up real quick. So we can look and then what you can do is sort by popular. What I would do is just look… again, this source is in a different language. You would want to find one that’s in your language, obviously, and make sure that this person is actually doing a lot of content on keto.

  • Selecting the Right Content

Let’s say, just to save time, you’re seeing a lot of content about your niche. These pieces of content are obviously the most popular because they’re at the top. One of the last things you want to look at is the length of the content.

  • Finding Popular Content in Your Niche

The first step to creating successful content is finding a topic that your audience is interested in. One way to do this is to look at older content that has been popular. For example, you could look at articles or blog posts that were published a year ago and see which ones are still getting a lot of traffic. If you find a topic that is still popular, you can create new content on that topic that is tailored to your audience.

  • Choosing a Product to Promote

Once you have chosen a niche and created some content, you need to decide what product you are going to promote. There are many different places to find products to promote, such as affiliate marketplaces. When choosing a product, it is important to make sure that it is relevant to your niche and that it is something that your audience would be interested in.

  • ClickBank: An Affiliate Marketplace

ClickBank is a popular affiliate marketplace that allows you to find products to promote in almost any niche. It is easy to set up and use, and it offers a variety of features that can help you track your results and maximize your earnings.

  • ClickBank: A Versatile Affiliate Marketplace

Wealth, relationships, spirituality, law of attraction, meditation – ClickBank is a one-stop shop for tons of different categories of products and the payouts are pretty good. I’m going to get into a second what to look for as far as finding a good product.

  • JVZoo: Perfect for Software Affiliates

This is another place to find products. It’s great if you’re wanting to promote software products. JVZoo is really good for software. You can go to and start for free.

  • Independent Affiliate Programs

Another great place to find affiliate products is independent affiliate programs. There are certain programs that people will create that aren’t listed on ClickBank or JV Zoo. You may find out about these if you’re on Facebook, they may share like independent affiliate programs. Now the great thing about these is there’s really no rules. ClickBank is going to be more strict on their payouts and all this, but you can find some independent affiliate programs that are instant.

Choosing an Affiliate Program: Instant Payouts and Supportive Community

Here are a few things to consider when choosing an affiliate program:

  • Payouts: How quickly will you get paid your commissions? Some programs pay instantly, while others may take weeks or even months.
  • Commission rate: How much money will you earn for each sale you generate? Most programs pay a commission between 50% and 100% of the sale price.
  • Community: Does the program have a supportive community of other affiliates? This can be a great resource for tips, advice, and support.

In addition to the factors above, you’ll also want to consider the types of products or services that the program promotes. Make sure you’re passionate about the products and that you believe in their value.

Here are a few additional tips for choosing an affiliate program:

  • Read the program’s terms and conditions carefully before you sign up.
  • Make sure the program is reputable and has a good track record.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The program’s support team should be happy to help you.

Choosing the Right Product Price Range

good okay it’s kind of rare but that’s a good amount to look for when choosing a product and you can find this information out on you know any platform and then I recommend a mid-range product when starting out okay so a mid low ticket product is anything that will pay you you know 10 bucks all the way up to about you know $150 that’s more low ticket. High ticket is going to be anything like $800 all the way up to you know $50,000 that’s more high ticket and then mid-range is anything from like $200 to $700.

Why Mid-Range Products are Ideal

The reason I recommend promoting a product in that area is because you don’t need to get on the phone with people if it’s a more expensive product.

Promoting Your Product

Now that we’ve chosen a niche, have our profile, know our platform, and have started posting content, we’re attracting our audience. Now we have a product – how do we promote that product to people? So this is what I want to get into right now.

Building a Social Media Following

So, you’ve started creating content to promote a product or service. Now you need to promote it to your audience so you can start to build some followers. By the way, if you’re on Instagram or Facebook or platforms like Twitter, what you can do is start to follow people in your target market. So on Facebook you could add friends, on Instagram you could add followers of people in your target market.

Finding Your Audience on Social Platforms

For example, I can search for that topic, find a group, and join it. Then, I can start adding people as friends because these people are interested in the niche that I’m in. You can go down to members with things in common and just add these people – a portion of them are going to add you back. It works the same way on Instagram. If you follow people, a portion are going to follow you back. That’s one way you can start to build your following.

Calls to Action

Let’s talk about your content. As you’re posting content, we don’t just want to be posting content randomly. We want to be posting specific content, and then at the end of the post we want to give a call to action. We want to say, look, if you’re interested in learning more, comment “info” below, or click the link in my bio.

Affiliate Marketing on Social Media

In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to use social media to promote affiliate links. We’ll cover different strategies for each platform, as well as tips for encouraging engagement and conversions.

Using Facebook Posts to Promote Affiliate Links

Facebook is a great platform for promoting affiliate links, as it allows you to target a specific audience with your posts. You can create posts that share интересные stories, tips, or advice, and then include a call to action that directs people to your affiliate link.

Here’s an example of a Facebook post that you could use to promote an affiliate product:

Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share this amazing new product with you that I’ve been using lately. It’s helped me to [achieve a specific result], and I know it can help you too! Click the link in my bio to learn more and get a discount on your purchase.

Encouraging Engagement with Comments and Messages

One of the best ways to increase the reach of your posts and get more people to click on your affiliate links is to encourage engagement. You can do this by asking questions in your posts, responding to comments, and running contests or giveaways.

Here are a few tips for encouraging engagement with your posts:

  • Ask questions that are relevant to your target audience.
  • Respond to comments promptly and thoughtfully.
  • Run contests or giveaways that are relevant to your affiliate product.

Leveraging Testimonials for Product Promotion

Testimonials are a great way to build trust and credibility with your audience. When people see that others have had success with a product, they’re more likely to be interested in trying it themselves.

You can encourage people to share their testimonials about your affiliate product by offering incentives, such as discounts or free products. You can also share testimonials on your social media profiles and website.

By following these tips, you can use social media to effectively promote affiliate links and generate more sales for your business.

I hope this blog post has been helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Additional tips:

  • Use high-quality images and videos in your posts.
  • Share your posts at the right times of day.
  • Use relevant hashtags.
  • Promote your posts through paid advertising.

By following these tips, you can increase the reach of your posts and get more people to click on your affiliate links.
